To Boldly Go

Lieutenant Junior Grade Aria Rice took a moment to take in the new Security space on the Fenrir. A proper working place, and there was an office for the Chief too which was brilliant. Hopefully that chair wouldn't be cursed. She hoped so for Masters' sake anyway. She sat down in a chair and stretched her legs, sighing contently. "Oh, I can imagine planning away team missions, going over risk assessments...locking up people..." she said to herself, believing herself very much alone in the moment.
In the secured armoury section of the security center S'Ralor's ears twitched as he heard a female voice talking, he too thought he was alone in the series of rooms. He slowly came back out of the armoury and resecured the door, approaching side on to the voices owner he smelled the air. It was definitely female, a human woman, young and athletic. A few seconds later the woman came into view sat down with her feet up on a console. "Good day Lieutenant." He said relatively quietly so not to surprise her too much.
"Good day," Aria said and looked at him, up and down, her eyes widening. "Wow, okay, cool!" she jumped down, standing and moving closer. Wow, he was tall. "I'm Aria Rice, Assistant Chief. I'm sorry, not caught up properly yet with, you know...personnel."
S'Ralor's mouth moved into a slight smirk as the small woman looked him up and down, he'd seen the same look in many people when they first met him; the look of surprise at his sheer mass, there was over a foot difference in height between them. "Petty officer S'Ralor Sir." He introduced himself.
"Rice, please...I don't stand on rank unless there's another officer," she said with a warm smile, nodding. "It's good to meet you, S'Ralor. You may have to sit down before my neck gives in..." she walked to sit down again.
Taking several steps backwards S'Ralor perched himself on the edge of one of the consoles. "Yes there is a... sizeable height difference between us. Sometimes it's to my advantage, sometimes to my detriment."
"Low doorways...Jeffries tubes..." Aria said before she smiled, holding his eyes. "But you get extra points for reaching things from the top shelf. As for me? Well, I am not the smallest Security Officer that ever was, but I won't win any awards for being...imposing."
"I have seen some small security officers fight like lions before." S'Ralor told her, "Size is not everything, how you use it is. And of course fighting is the last resort."
"Exactly!" she clapped her hands with a smile. "See, it's what I've been telling people. If we start throwing chairs at people, the situation is out of control...our job's not letting it go that far. Hope the Chief feels the same way."
S'Ralor chuckled at her 'throwing chairs' remark. "But then when 'throwing chairs' is needed we get stuck into handling the situation."
"Oh, totally, although I see us more as...throwing desks...because we're awesome and cool and pretty much going to be the best team Starfleet's ever seen," Aria said with a wink. "You know, going that one tiny step further than others."
"I admire your enthusiasm Lieutenant." S'Ralor nearly said 'a very tiny step in your case' but caught himself at the last moment, she may have said she doesn't stand on rank but there was still a line.
"Good!" Aria said as she looked at him, tilting her head a little. "So. Before things get really serious and all that...what are your goals?" she asked, curious. "I mean, the classic...'where do you see yourself in five years time' sorta thing?"
"Die gloriously in battle?" S'Ralor suggested. "Hope none of the litters I may have spawned have been able to track me down yet."
Aria burst out laughing at the last, holding her hand up. "Sorry...sorry, that just...that's pretty funny," she said, softening it with a small smile. She cleared her throat to get rid of the giggles. "Okay, so...basically glorious battle...no...extra specialist training? Cross training?"
S'Ralor chuckled at Aria's reaction. "I'm trained in beating people up that need beating up Sir," He replied somewhat bluntly. "Explosives, crowd control and basic field medicine."
She looked at him with interest at the last. "Field medicine?" she asked, more because she wouldn't have guessed it from how he spoke. Sure, maybe it was waving a medical tricorder over someone, but officially it was more than Aria had. She had done basic stuff at the Academy, same as everyone else, but she'd never be able to do much more than to give a look of sympathy.
"We security are often first on the scene, there's things you can do to help even if you don't have a medical kit." S'Ralor told her. "I'm no surgeon but if I can do anything to help keep someone alive till medical arrive, that's what I'll do."
"Good, I always did wonder if it wasn't standard," she said and smiled, shaking her head. "Like, Marines take medics, you'd think they'd appreciate that we're usually also around when trouble has started!"
"Exactly, just because we're the ones with access to weapons, doesn't mean shooting people is our only job, or our aim."
