Mission: To Boldly Go
Location: Outside Holodeck 2
Timeline: Day 9 - after the crew board Fenrir

[ON]

Staff Warrant Officer Oliver Sylver waited outside of holodeck 2 with a small smile. He was early, he knew that. Early wasn't bad though, it meant he was on time. He had suspected it was some training scenario, as being told to report to a holodeck was a good indicator. Unless his Chief had decided to throw them all a party. He did somehow doubt it though.

The inspection had gone well as far as he could tell. It always felt good to know things were going in the right direction. And he was starting to feel a bit restless with them being docked. As if he needed to run, get out for a bit. It was the drive of a pilot, the want to fly. And he wanted to fly.

Azree was walking with a decent pace down the corridor. In her arms were three PADDs that contained a battle plan for each of the training scenarios she had cooked up. Two of them focused on other factions, while the third dealt with something different.

The one she wanted to focus on today was how well her pilots acted in a real firefight and not a simulation. The best way to do this in a simulation was to split her department in teams and have them fight each other. This way, her pilots' actions would determine how others would react. Of course she also needed to see how they would react when attacked by the enemy, hence why she had two simulations that contained enemy factions.

She finally stopped short of Holodeck 2 to find Oliver waiting. "Mister Sylver" she nodded a greeting.

"Lieutenant," Sylver gave her a nod, a small smile coming to him as he watched her. There was a small sense of excitement he felt, the sort you got when you were going to be put through your paces. He hoped anyway.

"Lieutenant..." Sybine Elytt nodded to the chief respectfully as she neared the pair, walking alongside two of the other pilots she'd been having brunch with. There'd been more than just a little speculation as to what they might be up to at the table, but she enjoyed the element of surprise herself. Maybe it was because she was Betazoid, which left little in the way of surprises in life. Her dark haired tied back, her air was professional but also mixed with a pinch of excitement.

Azree nodded a greeting to Sybine. "Lieutenant" she said before tapping in a few inputs to her training scenarios to tweak them. Nothing serious, but she wanted it to be as good as it could be.

She looked up. "Is everyone here?"

Oliver looked around, doing a quick headcount. It was habit, because as an NCO he did notice things like that. "All present and accounted, Lieutenant," he said, a small smile coming to him.

Azree nodded. "Thank you mister Sylver" she began before addressing. "Alright, here's the game plan. We are going to be performing three training missions here in the holodeck. I will brief you on the other two once we get to them. The first mission will be a team elimination. Ideally you won't need to fight each other in an actual fight outside of war games, but I need you all to be prepared for anything and I want at least one of these simulations to be against real people."

"I've set up the holodeck to include replicas of our small craft. Since we don't have fighters we're only limited to what we have on the Fenrir so choose wisely. I will also be participating in these trainings. Any questions before we proceed?"

Oliver shook his head, smiling to himself. He liked the idea...he had been a fighter pilot, this was his wheelhouse. Even if he had put it behind him years ago. Okay, so maybe I am a bit competitive, he thought. He looked over at Elytt and the others. "No questions, Lieutenant," he said, when no one else said anything.

"Only whether you're all ready to eat my stardust..." Sybine smiled playfully as she folded her arms resolutely, her dark, Betazoid eyes sparkling with humour.

"I was doing this while you were still fingerpainting," Oliver said with a small smile, his blue eyes filled with humour as well. He looked at what they had and while on paper the runabouts were better...shuttles had more manoeuvrability. So he headed for Jörmungandr, one of the two shuttles.

Sybine rolled her eyes, but her smile was playful as she made for the runabout, preferring the reliability. She hurried inside, settling herself in started going through preflight checks as if it were the real thing. It had been carved into her heart through rigorous training and relentless flying hours clocked. She hadn't expected to go head to head with her fellow pilots, but what better way to figure out their strengths and weaknesses up close and personal?

Inside the shuttle, Oliver smiled as he set himself up in the pilot's seat. He tapped to open the communication...since holodecks were very realistic. "So except the glory, does the victor get anything special?" he asked, to make conversation.

"Their first choice of shift?" Sybine suggested with a soft laugh, shaking her head as she relaxed into her seat. Her controls showed green across the board, but she kept the runabout still, allowing her Chief to take the lead out.

"If the Lieutenant agrees...sure," Oliver said with a small, almost wicked smile as he double checked his systems. All green. All ready.

Azree nodded. "Works for me" the Trill said as she entered one of the only other shuttles that were empty and plopped into the familiar seat. All of her own systems were in the green.

Oliver grinned at the words before the countdown to launch started. He enjoyed the sensation that was partly imagined, partly a body's way to adjusting to movement as the shuttles left the shuttlebay and into the stretch of space.

Sybine followed them out, happy to let the others go ahead as they glided out to a safe distance. The countdown to the first exercise started, ticking away on her console. She tapped her screen with confidence, queuing up her chain of tricks and treats for the showdown about to start. The moment it hit zero she kicked the shuttle into action, putting enough distance between her and the group to swing back around in a daringly tight arc, firing sharp blasts of her phasers on the scorching trail back towards them.

Oliver narrowed his eyes as he took over, the shield taking a few hits. He did an evasive loop pattern, twisting the craft tightly to break through, firing phasers in return. He kept close enough to make it difficult for anyone to risk a torpedo.

The Trill redhead broke off from the group in the initial assault in an attempt to dodge Sybine's attack. It was successful. Azree brought the shuttle about to flank Sybine in retaliation. Then, the shuttle was gone from Sybine and Oliver's view.

Sybine watched her readouts with equal amounts of disbelief and awe. She laughed softly as she tried to figure out where she'd gone, shaking her head at the manoeuvre that had just been pulled off. She knew she'd gone from hunter to the prey...so she moved quickly to put space between herself and the others, hoping to get a view on her chief as she made her move on one of them...and hoped it wouldn't be against her.

Oliver's pulse spiked as he saw the shuttle being gone. He broke off, taking what could only be described as a sharp loop that pulled on his body. What it did give him was a brief moment of visual confirmation of what his sensors had told him. Some things you needed to see with your own two eyes.

Azree flew the runabout behind her two subordinates and got a target lock. "Yippee-ki-yay" the Trill said slyly as she fired on the other two shuttles.

Sybine rocked forward in her seat as the shuttle shuddered under the unexpected fire. She tsked and shook her head at herself for not seeing her coming, swearing under her breath even as she laughed softly. "Going down in a blaze of glory..." she sighed dramatically.

Azree had a shit-eating grin on her face. She missed flying in combat.
